Need of Educational Institutions in the current education landscape | 5 |
Planning & Strategy v. Execution | 5 |
Prospects of Gig Economy | 5 |
Failures of TRC in South Africa | 5 |
Current Affairs, including General Knowledge:
Overall, the GK portion of CLAT 2021 was moderately easy. In comparison to 2020 where the pattern for GK had changed, this time students were prepared for the type of passages to come. Further, last year the questions were technical in nature and involved various numbers which would have been difficult to memorise. However, this year the questions were easy, direct and prominent in the news. The Section consisted of 7 passages with 5 questions each on the following topics:
Name of the Topic | Number of Questions |
TSO Kar Wetland Complex | 5 |
Port Investment – Chabahar | 5 |
PM’s Visit to Bangladesh | 5 |
The disengagement plan between India and China along the LAC | 5 |
World Water Day, 2021 | 5 |
The United Nations | 5 |
Vaccination | 5 |
Legal Reasoning:
Most questions were easy but quite a few of them were moderately difficult. The passages were appreciably lengthy; however, they were not very complex. Further, the passages were based on fundamental legal concepts as opposed to legal current affairs. The Legal Reasoning section consisted of 8 Passages with 5 questions each. The passages were on the following topics:
Name of the Topic | Number of Questions |
Law of Contract | 15 |
Res Judicata | 5 |
Law of Torts | 5 |
Compassionate Appointment | 5 |
Law of Crimes | 5 |
Family Law | 5 |
Logical Reasoning:
The questions for all the passages covered almost all the critical reasoning topics such as assumptions, conclusions / inferences, strengthening and weakening of arguments, etc. While some passages were lengthy, others were of moderate length. Overall, the logical reasoning section was a little surprising since it did not have a single analytical reasoning question. Therefore, topics such as syllogisms, seating arrangements, puzzles, input - output, etc. were completely absent from the paper. The overall difficulty level was moderate. The Logical Reasoning section consisted of 6 Passages with 5 questions each. The passages were on the following topics:
Name of the Topic | Number of Questions |
School as an Institution | 5 |
Mental health and COVID | 5 |
COVID-19 and its effects | 5 |
Diplomacy in the Indian sub-continent | 5 |
COVID Death Rates | 5 |
Climate Change | 5 |
Quantitative Techniques:
The paper did not involve any complicated questions or higher - level discussions. They were based largely on percentages and a basic understanding of percentages would have been enough to solve the problems, as long as adequate conceptual clarity existed on the same. The profit and loss based set too would have been adequately solved with a fundamental understanding of profit and loss. A careful approach would ensure full marks there. The questions were based on the following topics:
Name of the Topic | Number of Questions |
Percentages | 10 |
Profit and Loss | 5 |

The passages were from Current Events, making the overall understanding of the passage a lot better. The answer options though were close and students should have sound knowledge of CR concepts to crack it. | 5 Passages |
Legal Aptitude | 25 + | 39 | Moderate | This Section was on the expected lines with a lot of passages covering the Current News around Legal Affairs. Though the section also expected you to have a basic idea of the important legal terms for a better understanding of the Questions. Someone who was well - read with the current legal events would have found the passages quite familiar. | 8 Passages |
Current Affairs, including General Knowledge | 25 + | 36 | Tough | The section caught students off- guard. The reason being the section was Analytical and not factual. Overall | 100 to 130 | 150 | Moderate but lengthy | 29 Passages |
Major Highlights:
1- Less number of questions as compared to last year.
2- Duration of the exam remains the same therefore sufficient time to attempt the paper.
3- Comprehension - based questions in all sections.
4- Overall the level of the exam was moderate but lengthy.
5- The legal and logical reasoning sections didn’t need much critical reasoning skills to answer questions in these sections.
