About Course 

BDes is an abbreviation for Bachelor of Design. BDes is a four-year undergraduate-level course that deals with the conceptual design process, furniture design, interior design, graphic design, and food design. BDes course aims to impart in-depth design knowledge to build a pool of research staff with designing expertise. The BDes course curriculum comprises CAD, CAM, product development, marketing, specialisation-specific subjects, vocational subjects, elective subjects as well as personality and skills development subjects. 

Students who pursue BDes courses get exposure to the design industry with internships, events, and exhibitions at the national as well as international level. Students holding BDes degree can start their career right after completing the course. They could intern with leading designers of their specialization to create better career opportunities.

Eligibility  

Students in order to enroll themselves in a BDes course must follow the eligibility criteria as discussed below:

1. Students who have passed Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination can pursue the BDes course.

2. There is no restriction of the stream at 10+2 level, therefore; students can pursue BDes courses irrespective of streams i.e. Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities.

3. The age limit for admission to BDes courses is a minimum of 19 or 20 years as specified by the institutes at the time of admission.

Course Scope And Career Options 

Fashion designer: Fashion Designers work either independently or directly for an apparel company, creating various clothing and accessory designs that appeal to consumers. They often sketch their designs, and then select patterns and fabrics that best complement the designs. A capable Fashion Designer should understand the principles of design. In addition, they should be able to apply this knowledge to creating aesthetically pleasing and functional pieces. 

Graphic designer: A graphic designer is in charge of creating visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to interface ideas and concepts through layouts, logos, and designs. Their job is to develop the overall layout and production design for mediums such as magazines, reports, advertisements, and brochures. Graphic designers create visual communications to convey messages in an effective and aesthetically pleasing manner. 

Fashion stylist: A fashion stylist works with brands and fashion houses, designers to provide their advice on fashion, trends, and makeup. Fashion stylists style clothes and outfits for photo shoots, advertisements, and celebrity appearances on talk shows or in movies, attend models’ events and otherwise keep up-to-date on the latest trends in the fashion world.

Art/Set director: An art director is responsible for the representation of the film, overseeing the artistic aspect of the film or publication. Whereas, a set director is solely responsible for deciding the location of the film or any publication as per the budget and demand for the script.

Design manager: A design manager coordinates the design work and acts as a bridge between the team involved in the entire construction process, right from the work of the design thinking team, architects, and the planning phase, to the studio work and the final product. He/She develops and implements successful design strategies by outlining how the design team will create the project’s deliverables.

Fashion Photographer: A fashion photographer represents the clothing, the product of a brand by clicking pictures for advertising campaigns, catalogs, and fashion magazines. They work closely with fashion designers and fashion houses to ensure that they have the desired result/product in their hands.​​​​​​​

Fabric Quality Controller: Quality control is an important part of any brand. A Fabric Quality Controller is responsible for checking garments, apparel, and sees if they are as per the brand standards. If not, they should remove that piece from the lot.

Admission Process 

The admission process to the BDes course is done on the basis of the entrance examination conducted by the different agencies. The candidates are required to visit the website of the entrance examination and register themselves. After registering, they are required to fill up the application form and upload the required documents in the prescribed format. After the examinations are published, the cut-off marks will be announced. Then, the aspirants who cleared the cut-off will have to attend the counseling process during which they will be allotted the seat based on their ranks in the merit list.
