About Career 

As an Artist, you will create a concept or original artwork using an array of mediums and techniques. You will be creating visual depictions of texts, concepts, topics, stories, and thoughts. When you are an artist, you will be using different tools and techniques to prepare your creative work and present it on a canvas or other material. In current times, you can also prepare different kinds of artwork by using a computer like designs, paintings, video game art, etc. You can also experiment with 3D artwork which transforms the perception of space and time. If you are satisfied with your work, you can showcase it in different art exhibitions and create a client base too.


Key Roles And Responsibilities

1. Integrate and develop visual elements, and perspective, to produce desired effects, such as the illustration of ideas, emotions, or moods.

2. Using materials such as watercolors, pens and ink, charcoal, oil, rasps, rifflers, carving wax, clay, computer software, and other tools and objects for creating artwork

3. Keep studying different techniques, and artworks and engage in experimentation to continuously grow in your artistic endeavours.

4. Create 2-D or 3-D art depicting objects in motion or illustrating a process, using computer animation or modeling programs

5. Researching through libraries & the internet, visiting art locations, using abstract concepts, interviewing people, and photographing objects for reference.

6. Plan projects, create and manage a budget, calculate expenditures, and confer with clients.

7. Cut, shape, fit, join mold, or process materials, using hands, tools, power tools, or machinery.

8. Making created objects or characters appear almost lifelike by manipulating light, texture color, or manipulating static images to give the illusion of motion.

9. Using models to simulate the behavior of animated objects in the finished sequence.

10. Advertising products and work by using media such as internet advertising and brochures.

11. Selecting materials for use based on texture, strength,   balance, color, and other characteristics.

Who is Eligible

Class 12th PASS

Career Entry Pathway 

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies - UG (Bachelors In Fine Arts/ Visual Arts).

After completing class 10 all subjects as per the scheme of studies complete Class 11-12 with any subject and then follow it up with a three-year course in Bachelors In Fine Arts/Visual Arts.

After completing class 10 all subjects as per the scheme of studies complete Class 11-12 with any subject and then follow it up with a three-year Bachelor's in any discipline. Then, you can go for postgraduate degrees, like Master In Fine Arts/Visual Arts.

After completing class 10 all subjects as per the scheme of studies complete Class 11-12 with any subject and then follow it up with a three-year Bachelor's in any discipline. Doctoral Studies

A Doctorate Degree in Fine Arts is the highest degree one can get in the field of study. However, to pursue a doctorate in Fine Arts, one needs to hold a master’s degree in the same. You can go for a PhD. In Fine Arts which will open opportunities in the research field, as well as make you eligible as a Professor of Fine Arts.

Work Environment

You will spend a lot of time using your hands. Your workspace could be limited to an environmentally controlled studio or art theatre, but research tasks could carry you to different environments in all fields or walks of life. You will work with specialized tools and equipment. You will have the freedom to make decisions but will often have to work with deadlines.

1. Painter

A painter is an artist who uses acrylic, watercolors, gouache, and other media to apply pigment, paint, or color to a canvas or solid surface using tools such as brush, knives, and sponges to reproduce an image, articulate an idea or concept, or to give vision to their thoughts.


2. Illustrator

An illustrator is a kind of artist who specializes in articulating concepts by providing a visual representation that is based on the associated content of the associated text, or an original idea. The illustration may be developed to clarify complicated concepts or objects that are difficult to describe textually or may exist to grab the reader’s attention enabling better reach and increased impact. Illustrators use tools such as pens, pencils, charcoals, acrylic, or computer software


3. Sculptor

A sculptor is a person who carves three-dimensional structures out of wood, stone, ceramics, metals, and other materials with the help of tools such as molds, rasps, riffles, scalpels, chisels, brushes, and more. Sculptures have a rich history and due to their relatively less perishable nature as compared to other art forms, they are some of the oldest surviving art relics from history and have a rich and varied heritage.


4. Artist (Printmaking)

Printmaking is the art of creating print designs on paper. Printmaking includes the study of intaglio, relief, silkscreen, lithography, and other art of printing. Printmaking includes the process of creating and transferring prints onto different surface materials such as paper, aluminium, cloth, glass, etc. Printmakers design and create prints that are transferred into different surfaces such as cloth, paper, and glass. They use special techniques to transfer these designs. Printmaking involves the study of fine art and graphics languages such as drawing, painting, collage, and digital printing. Printmakers are a part of many industries such as the fashion design industry, the arts and crafts industry as well as the digital advertising agency.


5. Artist (Graphic Designer)

Graphic design is the process of creating visuals depicting ideas, themes, and purpose through a combination of visuals, texts, and symbols. The final product is brought together with the use of typography, photography, and illustration. The field is considered a subset of visual communication and communication design


6. Installation Artist

Installation art involves the creation of site-specific three-dimensional artworks to transform the perception of space. Generally, it is related to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called public art, land art, or intervention art


7. Animator

An animator is an artist who is involved in creating multiple images, which are known as frames, and which give an illusion of movement called animation when displayed in rapid sequence. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, and video games. Animators decide how a model will move and how a scene and the characters will look and feel, by conferring with the director or the client


Career Growth

At Advertising and creative design firms, you can move from being a trainee to a Visualiser/Illustrator/Designer, etc. Over a few years depending upon your work, you can become a senior Visualiser/Illustrator/Designer, etc. Finally, in 8-10 years or even earlier, depending upon your work, you can become a Creative Director, Art Director, or Design Head.

Salary Offered  

At the beginning of your career, in advertising agencies or other creative design agencies, you can get about Rs. 8,000-12,000 a month as a trainee. With 2-5 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 10,000 - 20,000 or more per month. You can quickly rise in advertising agencies and other design and creative agencies if your work is really good. With 8-10 years of experience, you can earn about Rs. 50,000 - 80,000 or even more per month. But in smaller agencies, you may have to do with about Rs. 25,000-30,000 a month.

The growth of artists can be slower than average. However, if an artist can work hard, and earn a name for themselves, then there can be substantial growth. Also, since high-net-worth individuals are generally the people who invest in paintings and other fine arts, the future outlook shows that the assets of a high-net-worth individual are expected to reach USD 2.3 trillion, indicating an increase in the opportunity pool.
