A groundbreaking discovery has recently been made in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea, where herpetologist Fred Kraus uncovered a new species of snake, the Dendrelaphis anthracina, commonly known as the coal black tree snake. Measuring around 4 feet 8 inches, this striking species was found on Sudest Island, contributing to the rich biodiversity of the area. Kraus's research also led to the identification of three additional snake species, all endemic to other islands within the Louisiade Archipelago.

Characteristics Of Atra Tree Snake
The atra tree snake, measuring approximately 4 feet 1 inch, is distinct for its matte black coloration, white chin, and a transformation in color from gray-brown in its youth to solid black as it matures. This species has adapted well to human-altered environments, showing its resilience.
Features Of Black Net Tree Snake
Measuring 4 feet 11 inches, the black net tree snake is easily recognizable by its smooth dark scales and orange eyes. Its name is derived from its net-like pattern on the body. This species inhabits both tropical rainforests and man-made environments.
Characteristics Of Rosen Tree Snake
The smallest among the newly discovered species, Rosen’s tree snake reaches a length of around 3 feet 5 inches. It shares a similar color-shifting characteristic as the atra tree snake. This species is confined to Woodlark Island.
