A previously unknown microcontinent, now termed the Davis Strait proto-microcontinent, has been identified beneath the cold, remote waters of the Davis Strait the marine passage that separates Canada’s Baffin Island from Greenland.

This submerged microcontinent lies hidden under the ocean floor in the Davis Strait region. Its existence was uncovered through detailed geological studies examining the crustal structure and tectonic history of the area. The formation of this landmass is linked to ancient tectonic shifts that took place millions of years ago, when the continental plates beneath Baffin Island and Greenland began to separate.
As a result of these tectonic movements, a thick segment of continental crust formed in the ocean, becoming a distinct geological structure.
