Every year on April 18, World Heritage Day also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated worldwide to spotlight the value of preserving humanity’s shared cultural and natural legacy. Established to enhance public awareness, the day emphasizes the importance of safeguarding historical monuments and natural wonders for present and future generations.
In 2025, the focus of World Heritage Day is on enhancing disaster preparedness and conflict resilience, a theme that reflects the growing threats heritage sites face due to climate change, natural calamities, and armed conflicts. The theme is titled:
“Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts: Preparedness and Learning from 60 Years of ICOMOS Actions.”
