The Indian Navy recently conducted the third edition of its Meteorological and Oceanological Symposium, Meghayan-25, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening climate awareness and operational forecasting capabilities. This symposium also aligned with global observances, commemorating the formation of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and marking World Meteorological Day 2025, celebrated annually on March 23.
Theme And Purpose
Meghayan-25 was organized under the WMO’s 2025 theme, “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together”. The theme emphasizes global collaboration in developing robust early warning systems, crucial for mitigating the impact of climate-related hazards and ensuring better disaster preparedness.
The objective of the symposium was to bring together experts, naval officers, and institutions involved in atmospheric and oceanographic sciences to exchange knowledge, showcase innovation, and explore advanced technologies in weather forecasting and early warning systems.
Key Highlights And Launches
During the event, the Indian Navy unveiled MOSDAC-IN Web Services, a collaboration between the Directorate of Naval Oceanology and Meteorology (DNOM) and ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC). These web services provide personalized, satellite-derived weather products tailored for Naval Meteorological Offices, ensuring secure access via individual logins.
In addition, the Navy relaunched its prestigious scientific journal "Sagarmanthan", with the publication of its 10th edition after a decade-long hiatus. This journal serves as a platform for research, case studies, and technological insights in the field of naval meteorology and oceanography.
About World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
