Description
Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have made an important discovery in the Coringa wildlife sanctuary, identifying two new species of goby fish: Hemigobius hoevenii and Mugilogobius tigrinus.

These species had not been previously recorded in Andhra Pradesh.
M. tigrinus marks a first for its presence along the eastern coastline of India.
Both species are typically found in estuarine habitats, particularly around mangroves, where they play a crucial role in the local ecosystem.
Goby fish, including these new species, are significant in the food chain and can act as indicators of the health of the environment.
