India has successfully conducted a test of Bhargavastra, its first indigenous micro-missile system designed to counter the threat of swarm drones.
About Bhargavastra
Bhargavastra is India’s first homegrown micro-missile system, specifically developed to neutralize the threat posed by drone swarms.
Developed by Economic Explosives Ltd., it is capable of rapid deployment on mobile platforms and can engage targets up to 2.5 km away.
The system has the ability to detect even small flying objects from a distance of over 6 km, targeting them with precision-guided micro-munitions.
Bhargavastra can launch more than 64 micro-missiles simultaneously, making it highly effective against multiple threats at once.
It is designed for use in all types of terrain, including high-altitude regions, and meets the specific needs of the armed forces.
This counter-drone system is the first to use micro missiles and has been developed for the Army Air Defence.
About Swarm Drones
SWARM stands for "Smart War-Fighting Array of Reconfigured Modules."
Swarm drones are a group of drones that coordinate to perform missions with minimal human input, sometimes involving as few as three drones or as many as thousands.
These swarms can be used for various tasks such as controlling wildfires, conducting damage assessments, or even deploying firefighting agents, all with limited human intervention.
Drone swarms are often more effective than individual drones because they can perform multiple tasks in parallel, increasing efficiency.
Advanced computer algorithms, along with local sensing and communication technologies, help synchronize multiple drones to accomplish a goal.
The command and control of drone swarms can be done in different ways, such as through pre-programmed flight paths, a central control station, or distributed control where drones share information and collaborate autonomously.
