The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2025 was conducted by XLRI - Xavier School of Management on January 5, 2025. Held across 110 cities from 2 PM to 5 PM, the exam was divided into two parts: Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 consisted of three sections - Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VA & LR), Decision Making (DM), and Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (QA & DI). Part 2 focused on General Knowledge (GK).
Difficulty Level And Expert Insights
According to experts from Supergrads-Toprankers, the overall difficulty level of XAT 2025 was moderate to high. Despite some changes in the exam pattern compared to XAT 2024, the paper was considered doable. "An attempt of 46-48 questions with high accuracy should be considered competitive," stated Karan Mehta, co-founder of Toprankers. He further mentioned that the cut-off for XAT 2025 is expected to be slightly lower than last year's.
Key Changes In XAT 2025
Several surprising elements were introduced this year:
Probability-based questions appeared in the QA section.
A unique cartoon-based Data Interpretation (DI) question was included, sourced from The New York Times.
No questions on Time & Work were included in the QA section.
The XAT 2025 exam followed a new pattern with just four sections and a total of 95 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Notably, the essay writing section was removed, and the GK section was shortened from 25 to 20 questions.
Section-wise Analysis
1. Decision Making (DM) - This section was moderate to difficult, with many questions falling between moderate and challenging in terms of difficulty. Candidates who attempted 12-14 questions with accuracy are likely to score well in this section.
2. Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VALR) - The VA & LR section was more accessible than in previous years, featuring a larger number of straightforward questions. A good attempt here would be around 16-18 questions.
3. Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (QA & DI) - The QA & DI section had a moderate to difficult level of difficulty. Topics covered included Linear Equations, Coordinate Geometry, Mensuration, and Data Interpretation sets. A strong attempt would involve answering 17-18 questions with high accuracy.
4. General Knowledge (GK) - The GK section was of easy to moderate difficulty, containing questions on both static and current affairs. A good attempt in this section would be around 10-11 questions.
Overall, XAT 2025 was challenging yet manageable, and candidates who performed well with high accuracy are likely to be in a strong position for competitive results.
