UPPSC Concedes To Student Demands: PCS Exam Now In One Day, One Shift

Description

After four days of protests by 10,000 students outside the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) office in Prayagraj, the Uttar Pradesh government has agreed to all the students' demands. The UPPSC has officially decided to reverse several changes it had previously implemented. Notably, the plan to conduct the UP PCS (preliminary) exam in two shifts has been scrapped, and the exam will now take place in a single shift. Additionally, the Review Officer-Assistant Review Officer (RO-ARO) exam has been postponed, and the controversial normalization process has been removed from the examination system.

The students had been demonstrating against the Commission's decision to split the UP PCS exam into two shifts on December 7 and 8, and to hold the RO-ARO exams over two days, December 22 and 23. They voiced their concerns, demanding that both exams be held in a single shift on one day, as well as the removal of the normalization process, which they felt was unfair.

The protests gained momentum, leading to the intervention of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In response to the students’ demands, the Chief Minister directed the UPPSC to engage with the students and make the necessary changes. The Commission promptly held a meeting with the student representatives and decided to make the changes accordingly. As a result, the UPPCS preliminary exam 2024 will now be conducted on a single day, in one shift, as per the students' request.

Furthermore, the UPPSC has formed a high-level committee to examine the situation surrounding the RO-ARO exam and will decide on the future course of action based on the committee’s recommendations. This committee is expected to submit its report soon, ensuring that future examinations maintain transparency and fairness.

The students' victory in this matter is being hailed as a significant achievement, as their sustained protests led to the reversal of decisions that had sparked widespread dissatisfaction.
