The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) carried out a surprise inspection of 27 affiliated schools in Delhi and Rajasthan. Following an investigation, the board discovered noncompliance with criteria for students' regular attendance. As a result, CBSE decided to withdraw its affiliation/association with 21 schools and downgrade 6 from senior secondary to secondary level.

According to the board, “The dummy or non-attending schools undermine educational integrity and issued show cause notices, allowing schools 30 days to respond. The vital observations of the Surprise Inspection Committees in regard of the irregularities observed during the inspections were communicated as a report to the respective schools.’’

The CBSE board has decided to rescind the affiliation based on the response provided by school officials, survey findings, and video evidence. Authorities discovered a significant number of non-attending students in these 21 schools, ranging from grades 9 to 12. 

“The practice of dummy/ non-attending admissions contradicts the core mission of school education, compromising students' foundational growth. We are taking decisive action to combat the proliferation of dummy schools and send a clear message to all affiliated institutions to resist the lure of accepting dummy or non-attending admissions, ‘’ it further added.

Class 10 And 12 Students Preparing For Board Exams

CBSE has recently disaffiliated 21 schools and degraded six others in Delhi and Rajasthan. Many students must be stressed and uncertain about their academic prospects. Especially those students in classes 10 and 12 who are preparing to appear in forthcoming board exams. When the board has to disaffiliate schools during the session, the following things happen-

• Transition Period- CBSE grants a grace period to students in classes 10 and 12 so that they can complete their exams with CBSE affiliation. Sometimes schools keep CBSE recognition for a limited period to guarantee that students approaching their examinations can appear them through the board.

• Transfer to neighboring Schools- CBSE makes alternative arrangements to transfer impacted students to neighboring CBSE-affiliated schools so that they can complete their studies and sit for exams. This appears to be a hustle, yet it allows students to get a CBSE mark sheet.

• judicial Recourse- In some cases, parents and schools may seek judicial action to allow students to appear for CBSE examinations when no other options exist.

Other solutions

• Allowing students to appear for board exams as private candidates.

• Allowing them to appear for exams from adjacent CBSE-affiliated schools while still studying at their existing school.
