The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) will use Olympiads to admit students to its BTech and BS programs. Olympiad admissions to BTech-BS degrees at IIT Kanpur will begin in the 2025-26 academic year.
Candidates will be admitted through Olympiads in the departments of biological sciences and bioengineering, computer science and engineering, chemistry, economics and mathematics, and statistics.
Olympiads in biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics will determine admission to the department of biological sciences and bioengineering. One candidate will be chosen through the Mathematical Olympiad, and one from the Biology, Physics, or Chemistry Olympiad.
Assume there is a common candidate in the mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry Olympiads. In that instance, the candidate will be considered in the channel with a higher ranking. If the candidate's rank is the same in both channels, they will be considered for the mathematics channel.
According to IIT-Kanpur, biology candidates would be chosen above physics and chemistry in that order.
Admission to the Computer Science and Engineering department will be based on math and informatics Olympiads. Admission to the Chemistry department will be determined by performance in the Chemistry Olympiad. Admission to economic sciences, mathematics, and statistics will be dependent on the mathematical Olympiad.
The participating departments will use the appropriate Olympiad's rank list to nominate candidates, who will then be subjected to a written examination (required) and an interview (optional) to finalize the programme's selected candidates.
The participating departments will announce the call for applications for admission through Olympiads in the first week of March, with admissions taking place in July of the each academic year. The application submission window will close in the fourth week of March. The official opening and closing dates for sending out admission offers will be notified after the date of JoSAA counselling has been determined.
