The National Testing Agency recently announced the discontinuation of optional questions from Section B of the JEE Main exam. The optional part was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Candidates for the JEE Main 2025 exams, which are scheduled to be held in January and April 2025, will no longer be able to select 5 out of 10 questions in Section B. Changes were applied to the JEE Main 2025 paper 1 (BE and BTech) and Paper 2A (BArch) and 2B (BPlan).

According to the official announcement, the UN World Health Organization's declaration on COVID-19 expired on May 5, 2023, hence the optional question selection has been discontinued. The JEE Main 2025 exams will be held in the same format as before the pandemic, with section B having just 5 questions per subject and students having no options for selection in JEE Main 2025 Paper 1, Paper 1A, or Paper 2B.
JEE Main 2025 Exam Schedule
Since the new exam pattern has been canceled and the exams will be held in their original format, the National Testing Agency will shortly release the full schedule for the JEE Main 2025 exams. JEE Main will be held in two sessions. The first session of exams will take place in January 2025, followed by the second session in April 2025.
Candidates are urged to keep their certificates and documents on hand and make the appropriate arrangements for the registration fee submission process, which can be completed using credit/debit cards, net banking, and UPI services.
Based on prior year trends, the application process is scheduled to commence in November-December 2024. Students who have completed their class 12 qualifying exams in the science stream with mathematics and are scheduled to appear in the class 12 qualifying examinations in the science stream in March-April 2025 will be eligible to apply for the JEE Main 2025 exams.
