In 2024, InterNations conducted a global study and determined that Vietnam was the greatest country for foreigners to live on a budget. This is the fourth year in a row that Vietnam has topped the list, making it even more popular among expats looking to live abroad affordably.
Study Overview
The InterNations study polled almost 12,000 expatriates in 174 countries and regions regarding topics such as cost of living, financial contentment, and spare money to spend. This in-depth study examined 53 locations around the world, looking at factors such as quality of life, digital access, housing, language, employment possibilities, compensation, and job stability.
Key Findings
Vietnam, along with other expat-friendly locations like Colombia and Indonesia, was looked at in a variety of ways-
Housing- Vietnam placed in second place globally and was praised for making it easier to find low-cost housing.
Work-Life Balance- In Vietnam, only 46% of expats work full-time, compared to a global average of 57%.
Stress Levels- Many expats in Vietnam reported feeling less stressed than they did in their home countries.
These characteristics make the country particularly desirable to anyone looking to live abroad without spending a lot of money.

She stated that Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia all have affordable and easily accessible homes.
