Description

The Supreme Court on June 11 sought the National Testing Agency's response to a petition seeking a retake of the medical entrance exam NEET UG, 2024, due to an alleged question paper leak and other malpractices.

However, a vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah refused to postpone the counselling of selected candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses.

NEET UG 2024 was held on May 5, and the results were announced on June 4. It was supposed to be declared on June 14th.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) test for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant courses in government and private institutions throughout the country.

The Supreme Court merged the plea filed by Shivangi Mishra and others with the ongoing one and directed the NTA to prepare a response in the interim.

The petition contended that NEET-UG, 2024, was rife with malpractices, citing multiple instances of paper leaks that the petitioners were aware of.

According to the report, the alleged paper leak violated Article 14 (right to equality) of the Constitution by giving some candidates an unfair advantage over others who chose to appear for the examination in a fair manner.
