Description
A Himalayan serow was recently spotted in the centre of Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve.
About Himalayan Serow
- It resembles a hybrid between a donkey, a goat, a cow, and a pig.
Types
There are multiple species of serows, all of which are found in Asia.
The Himalayan serow, also known as Capricornis sumatraensis thar, is found only in the Himalayas. Taxonomically, it is a subspecies of mainland serow (Capricornis sumatraensis).
Diet- These are herbivorous species.
Distribution- These are commonly found at altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 metres (6,500 to 13,000 feet). They are known to live in the eastern, central, and western Himalayas, but not in the Trans Himalayan region.
Conservation Status- Vulnerable (IUCN Red List).

Key Information About Nameri Tiger Reserve
It is located in the northern section of Assam's Sonitpur district, bordering the Arunachal Pradesh foothills.
The Nameri National Park forms the heart of NTR, which is bordered by rivers Jia-Bhoreli in the west and Bor-Dikorai in the east.
The Pakke Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh is to the north, and the habitat is contiguous.
Flora includes tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen, and moist deciduous forests with cane brakes, as well as short patches of open grassland near rivers.
The area is rich in biodiversity and home to the iconic white-winged wood duck.
Leopard cat, common otter, black giant squirrel, Indian mongoose, large clawed shrew, Indian flying fox, slow loris, Assamese macaque, and Rhesus macaque can all be found here.
