The National Testing Agency (NTA) denied allegations of a 'paper leak' during the ongoing common university entrance examination for undergraduate admissions  (CUET UG) in Kanpur on May 17, stating that incorrect question papers were distributed at a city center and that the affected 220 students' exams will be retaken on May 29.

There were suspicions of paper leaks at an examination site in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on May 16. However, the testing agency stated that the issue was due to incorrect question paper distribution.

“There was no paper leak, the invigilators mistakenly distributed English medium question paper to the Hindi medium students during the General Test examination on Thursday at a center in Kanpur. The NTA will re conduct the exam for over 220 affected students on May 29,” said a senior NTA official.

The NTA will also hold the CUET UG exam for Delhi exam centers on May 29, after the May 15 exam was postponed the night before for unavoidable reasons.

A similar incident occurred during the NEET UG exam in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur, when Hindi-medium candidates were given English-medium question papers. Their exam was conducted on the same day, May 5, 2024. NTA had also dismissed accusations of paper leaks in the NEET UG exam.

For the first time, the third edition of the country's most important exam will be held in hybrid format. On May15, four courses' exams were set, including Chemistry, Biology, English, and the General Test. The offline tests will take place between May 15 and 19, followed by computer-based tests for the remaining subjects between May 21 and May 24.

The first day of the test saw 75% attendance, while the second day had 79% attendance.
