Description

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notification for students who studied Basic or Standard Mathematics in Class 10. This year, the board is allowing students in Basic Math to choose Mathematics in Class 11. According to a prior guideline, students who chose Basic Mathematics in Class 10 were not permitted to pursue Mathematics topics in Class 11. These students had the choice of studying applied mathematics rather than standard mathematics.

However, schools must ensure that students have the aptitude and competence to study the Mathematics course.

The official notification by the CBSE reads, "Students who offered Mathematics Basic (241) are also allowed to offer Mathematics Standard (041) in class 11. Before permitting Mathematics Standard (041) in class 11 to such students, the head of the institution/school should satisfy that the students are having the aptitude and ability to pursue Mathematics Standard (041) in class 11."

Meanwhile, the announcement requested that students in Class 10 of the 2024-25 session choose their subjects carefully, as CBSE will not enable them to make any more changes once they have selected their subjects in LOC.

In January 2019, CBSE introduced the notion of two levels of mathematics for classes 11 and 12. Standard Mathematics was established for students who wanted to take Mathematics (041) in Class 12, while Basic Mathematics was for those who did not want to continue Mathematics further. Students who were offered Basic Mathematics (241) in class 10 can only study Applied Mathematics in class 11.

In the past, CBSE has granted an exemption to offer Mathematics (041) in class 11/12 to students who were taught Basic Mathematics in class 10 because to the Covid epidemic.
