Description
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Mohali has named Professor Anil Kumar Tripathi as its director for a five-year term. Professor Tripathi is a prominent professor at Banaras Hindu University's School of Biotechnology and Institute of Science. He has nearly four decades of study and teaching expertise.
He has been teaching at BHU since 1990 and also worked as a professor at DDU Gorakhpur University from 2002 to 2004. Prof. Tripathi also served as Director of the Institute of Science, BHU, from February 2019 until January 2024. According to the press release, he has made major contributions to the university in a variety of administrative and academic capacities, in addition to leading multiple research projects.
He has supervised 22 PhD theses and received various fellowships and prizes. Among these are the J C Bose National Fellowship, the Dr Rajendra Prasad Oration Award, the CSIR Technology Award in Life Science, the UGC Career Award in Biotechnology, and the ISCA Young Scientist Award by the Indian Science Congress in Bangalore. He is also a Fellow of the country's leading science academies, including the Indian Academy of Science (IASc) in Bangalore, the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI) in Allahabad, and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Prof. Tripathi has numerous papers in prestigious national and international research journals to his name. His areas of interest include bacterial genetics, functional genomics, systems biology, and synthetic biology, according to the statement.
He also directed the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) from February 2014 until January 2019.
