About The Author

Sam Pitroda is a globally recognized telecom inventor, entrepreneur, development thinker, and policymaker with 50 years of experience in information and communication technology (ICT) and related global and national developments.

Pitroda is credited with laying the groundwork for India's telecommunications and technology revolution in the 1980s, and he has been a strong advocate for closing the worldwide digital gap. During his time as Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's Advisor, he oversaw six technical missions focused on telecommunications, water, literacy, immunization, dairy production, and oil seeds.

Pitroda has also been the founder and first Chairman of India's Telecom Commission, Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission, and Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation. He has served as the founding chairman of various non-profit organizations, including the India Food Bank, the Global Knowledge Initiative, and the Institute of Transdisciplinary Health.

Pitroda is a serial entrepreneur who founded many firms in the United States. He has around 20 honorary PhDs, nearly 100 worldwide patents, and has published five books and several papers. He is recognized for his contributions to India's technological revolution and efforts to close the worldwide digital divide.
