Description
The Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, has become India's 14th airport to use the Digi Yatra system. This biometric-enabled system uses facial recognition technology to automate passenger entry and verification at several airport checkpoints, making the travel experience more efficient and easy. The Digi Yatra system is now functioning at 13 other Indian airports, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai, among others.
About Digital Yatra System
The Digi Yatra technology enables travelers to link their Aadhaar number to a Digi Yatra ID via their mobile app. At the airport, customers may just scan their boarding pass, and the facial recognition system will validate their identification, allowing them to get through security and boarding without the need for manual inspections.
The system attempts to cut passenger wait times, speed up processing, and simplify operations. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has launched a program to make air travel more secure and convenient.
Development And Implementation Of Digi Yatra
The Digi Yatra system was created, installed, and is managed by the Digi Yatra Foundation, which was established in 2019 by the Airport Authority of India, Cochin International Airport, Bangalore International Airport, Delhi International Airport, Hyderabad International Airport, and Mumbai International Airport.
Manohar International Airport, Goa
The Manohar International Airport is Goa's second international airport, following the Dabolim airport, which is a civil enclave within a military post.
The Manohar International Airport is located in Mopa, North Goa, and was developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited. It is named after Manohar Parrikar, the former Chief Minister of Goa and former Union Defence Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Mopa airport on December 11, 2022, making it the 14th airport in India to launch the Digi Yatra system.
