According to the most recent FIDE rankings provided by the world chess governing body, Arjun Erigaisi is India's new number one chess player. Erigaisi has a standard rating of 2756 and is ranked ninth in the world. This is his first appearance in the top 10 of the Open standard list.

Anand Follows As The Second-Ranked Indian

Viswanathan Anand, the second-ranked Indian on the FIDE list, follows Erigaisi as a five-time world champion. Erigaisi, 21, scored eight points in the fifth Shengzhen Chess Masters and Bundesliga, propelling him to ninth place on the list.

Anand's Ranking And Ratings

Anand is ranked 11th in the ratings, with a rating of 2751. Anand is followed by the Candidates troika of Praggnanandhaa R (18), Gukesh D (17), and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (29), all of whom will compete in the renowned Candidates event later this week.

Pragg, Gukesh, And Vidit's Rankings

Pragg is ranked 14th in the FIDE ratings, with a rating of 2747. Gukesh ranks 16th, with a rating of 2743. Vidit ranks 25th, with a rating of 2727 points.

World No. 1: Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen, the previous world champion, still leads the standings with a rating of 2830.

Candidates' Tournament Favorites

Carlsen is followed by two Americans: Fabiano Caruana (rating 2803), and Hikaru Nakamura (rating 2789). Caruana and Nakamura are both odds-on favorites to win the Candidates tournament, which will qualify them to face world champion Ding Liren.
