Nayana James from Kerala won the women's long jump event at the 3rd Indian Open Jumps Competition with a personal best mark of 6.67m.
Standout Performance
Nayana's leap of 6.67m was nearly seven years after her previous personal best of 6.55m.
Her jump stood out since no other athlete approached the 2024 Paris Olympics qualification mark that day.
National jumps coach Denis Kapustin described it as the "best jumps result" in recent memory.
Challenge The Records
Nayana's distance was 16cm short of Anju Bobby George's national record and 19cm short of the Paris mark.
The 28-year-old outperformed the highly regarded Shaili Singh, who could only reach 6.40m.
Other Standout Performances
Pavithra Venkatesh, 22, of Tamil Nadu, set a new personal best of 4.15m in the women's pole vault, a satisfying accomplishment for the 2023 Asian indoor silver medalist.
In the men's triple jump, Commonwealth Games silver medalist Abdulla Aboobacker won gold (16.76m), followed by CWG gold medalist Eldhose Paul (16.45m) and Tamil Nadu's Selva Prabhu (16.32m).
