The Supreme Court has not postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) 2024. The Court evaluated a variety of applications made by students requesting exam postponement. However, the NEET MDS 2024 exam will take place on March 18, 2024.
Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, declared that the National Dental Commission (NDC) is trying to resume academic sessions. He went on to say that seeking court intervention cannot be considered arbitrary. CJI Chandrachud stated that it was inappropriate to intervene at this point.
NDC indicated during the Supreme Court hearing that it is attempting to get the session back on track and that about 28,000 students will appear in the entrance exam on March 18, 2024. The Commission further stated that the NEET candidate will be impacted if the exam is postponed at this time. The NDC stated that 568 candidates registered for the exam after the union government extended the deadline.
Meanwhile, the petitioner's attorney said that 8,000 students are halfway through their clinical program and will be excluded. The petitioners asked for parity between the NEET MDS 2024 and NEET PG 2024 Exams.
Why Did Students Demand NEET MDS 2024 Exam Postponement?
The NEET MDS aspirants and student organizations urged that the exam be moved to July 2024. The case was previously taken to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court declined to intervene and directed the Centre to take a call. After the Centre failed to take action despite reassuring students, the petitioners turned to the Supreme Court. MDS candidates demand a postponement after NBE rescheduled NEET PG 2024 for July.
Students and doctors urged that the NEET exam be postponed. The associations claimed that thousands of candidates lost their eligibility to sit the exam due to the internship deadline, and that students would have to wait a long time because NEET MDS counseling will take place in August alongside NEET PG.
