Description
In Thailand's Kaeng Krachan National Park, researchers discovered an unknown scorpion species with eight eyes and eight legs.
The Discovery
During a wildlife expedition in the park, near the Tenasserim Mountain Range, a team of researchers discovered this new scorpion species while camped behind a rock. They studied three adult males and one adult female of this species and reported their findings in the journal ZooKeys.
A New Euscorpiops Species
Euscorpiops Krachan, named after the national park where it was discovered, is a new species from the subgenus Euscorpiops.
Features Of The New Species
According to the study, the new species shares most characteristics with other scorpions in the Euscorpiops subgenus.
Smaller than other Euscorpiops species.
Brownish in color, with females being darker than men
Has 8 eyes and 8 legs.
Hunting Behavior
The new species, like others in the Scorpiops genus, is thought to hunt using "ambush or sit-and-wait type of foraging" techniques.
Limited Distribution
The study discovered that scorpions of this genus have small distribution ranges and a high level of endemism (species found only in a certain location).

Previously, the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) found a new species of marine slug molluscs on the damp and sandy beaches of Odisha and Bengal. Melanochlamys Droupadi, named for President Droupadi Murmu, was discovered in the low intertidal zones of Digha, West Bengal and Udaypur, Odisha. The discovery of these new species shows Thailand and India's great biodiversity, as well as the need of ongoing exploration and research to unearth and chronicle the planet's different life forms.
