The Delhi High Court dismissed a suit challenging theNational Testing Agency's (NTA) normalisation score-based percentile approach for the JEE Main exam for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The Delhi High Court decided that Setu Vinit Goneka's appeal did not meet the threshold. The court further stated that the challenge should not be heard because the petitioner was fully informed of the normalisation procedure prior to taking the examination.
Petitioner Is Aware Of The Normalisation Procedure
The court described the challenge as'somewhat nebulous', adding that the petitioner was well aware of the procedure and went forward with the examination. The order further said that a candidate who is aware of the system for conducting an examination and the marking process used in that regard cannot challenge the examination after the results have been declared.
Challenged Procedure Is A Statistical Process
'The practice of normalization based on percentile score is a sophisticated statistical process,' the Delhi High Court stated. In November 2018, the NTA approved a procedure and formula based on the recommendations of a high-powered committee. The procedure was examined again in October 2020. The court went on to say that the NTA's procedure applies to every student in the country who attempts the IIT JEE exam.
Furthermore, Justice Shankar stated that the normalisation procedure should not be used to judge any student's performance because they all appear in the same exam in various shifts assigned arbitrarily by the NTA. The official website, provides the most recent updates.
