The Indian Army contingent of 25 personnel traveled to Egypt to participate in the India-Egypt Joint Special Forces Exercise CYCLONE.

Exercise CYCLONE

• It is the second edition of Exercise Cyclone, which will take place in Anshas, Egypt from January 22nd to February 1st, 2024. The first edition of the exercise was conducted in India last year.

• The Indian contingent is represented by troops from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while the Egyptian contingent of 25 personnel is represented by the Egyptian Commando Squadron and Egyptian Airborne Platoon.

• The purpose of the Exercise is to familiarize both sides with each other's operating procedures in the context of Special Operations in desert/semi-desert terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. 

•  It is intended to foster bilateral military cooperation and strengthen the bond between two armies by conducting discussions and practicing tactical military drills.

• It will involve the planning and execution of special operations in the sub-conventional domain over three phases.

• While the first phase will consist of military exhibitions and tactical interactions, the second phase will concentrate on training in Improvised Explosive Device (IED), counter-IED, and Combat First Aid.

• The third and final phase will include a joint tactical exercise based on fighting in a built-up area and hostage rescue scenarios.

• The exercise will provide an opportunity for both contingents to strengthen their bonds and share best practices.

• It will also serve as a platform for achieving common security goals and strengthening bilateral relations between two friendly countries.
