Description
The Indian government has directed all schools and higher education institutions to provide digital study materials in Indian languages within three years. The decision is consistent with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which promotes multilingualism across all levels of education.
According to an official notification from the Ministry of Education, all school and higher education regulators, including UGC, AICTE, NCERT, NIOS, and IGNOU, as well as heads of INIs such as IITs, CUs, and NITs, must make study materials in Indian languages available for all courses within the next three years. UGC, AICTE, and the Department of School Education have also been asked to address the issue in state schools and universities.

The Ministry of Education stated that the move is intended to break down language barriers across the country. This allows students to study in their native language while also encouraging innovative thinking for better learning outcomes.
The government has been actively working on this initiative for the past two years, translating a variety of educational materials using the Anuvadini AI-based app. The material is available on the ekumbh portal and includes resources for engineering, medical, law, undergraduate, graduate, and skill books. DIKSHA provides study materials in over 30 Indian languages. Furthermore, competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, and CUET are now offered in 13 Indian languages.
