The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to extend the Sankranti break for two days. On January 17, 2024, the AP state government issued a memo stating that the Makar Sankranti vacations would be extended for an additional two days. As a result, all schools across the state will resume on January 22, 2024.
According to the notice, Suresh Kumar, Commissioner of the School Education Department, stated that the government has decided to extend the AP Sankranti Holidays 2024 for all primary and secondary schools in the state by an additional two days (January 19 and January 20, 2024) in response to parental and teacher demands.
Previously, all schools in the state were closed for ten days during the Sankranti celebration. The students' vacation began on January 9, 2024, and was scheduled to end on January 18, 2024.

The Andhra government issued a notice instructing all District Education Officers to hold compensatory classes instead of the extended Sankranti break. These classes can be held during the upcoming General Holidays of the Academic Session 2023-24. According to local reports, the responsible officials must instruct all headmasters of government, private, ZPP/MPP, aided, and unaided schools in the state to follow these guidelines.
It is also possible that the state's educational institutions will be closed on January 22, 2024, to commemorate the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. However, the Andhra Pradesh government has made no official announcements as of yet. Meanwhile, the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa have declared public holidays for all educational institutions and government offices in their respective states in honor of Ram Janmbhoomi's 'Pran Pratishtha'.
