Description

In a historic step, the Indian Navy and Royal Thai Navy (RTN) teamed together in December 2023 for the first bilateral exercise, dubbed "Ex-Ayutthaya." This naval collaboration, symbolizing the indestructible spirit, is significant because it unites the ancient cities of Ayodhya in India and Ayutthaya in Thailand, expressing shared historical tales and centuries of rich cultural relationships.

Key Ayutthaya Highlights

  • Symbolic Meaning 'Ex-Ayutthaya' translates to 'The Invincible One,' stressing Ayodhya's historical and cultural ties to Ayutthaya.

  • Naval Participation The Indian Naval ships Kulish and IN LCU 56 participated in the inaugural event, while the Royal Thai Navy was represented by His Thai Majesty's Ship (HTMS) Prachuap Khiri Khan.

  • Coordinated Patrol Along with the bilateral exercise, the 36th edition of the India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) was held, which improved operational synergy.

  • Airborne Participation Maritime Patrol with Airborne Participation Both navies' aircraft participated in the sea phase, demonstrating their commitment to maritime security.

  • Operational Synergy These exercises represent a strategic step toward increasing operational synergy and complexity, consistent with India's SAGAR strategy for Regional Security and Growth.
