A Namdapha flying squirrel that had been absent for 42 years has recently emerged in Arunachal Pradesh.
About The Namdapha Flying Squirrel
It is an arboreal, nocturnal flying squirrel that is only found in Arunachal Pradesh.
It is one of the world's 43 known flying squirrel species.
The Namdapha Flying Squirrel was named for the place where it was discovered, which is part of the Namdapha National Park.
These squirrels cannot fly like birds or bats, but instead glide between trees.
They live in tall Mesua ferrea jungles, often on hill slopes in the Dihing River catchment area (especially on the western slope of the Patkai range) in northeastern India.
They are herbivores (sometimes known as frugivores and granivores). They consume a wide range of fruits, nuts, seeds, fungus, flowers, and tree sap.

It is in the Arunachal Pradesh district of Changlang.
Namdapha is the name of a river that flows from Daphabum to the Noa-Dehing river.
This river flows through the National Park in a north-south direction, earning it the name Namdapha.
This protected region is sandwiched between the Mishmi Hills' Dapha Bum crest and the Patkai Ranges in the North Eastern Himalayas.
Flora includes evergreen forests, moist deciduous woods, subtropical forests, temperate forests, and alpine forests.
