About Yogmaya Temple
The Jogmaya Temple, also known as the Mehrauli Temple, is an ancient Hindu shrine located in the middle of Mehrauli (Delhi), just a few hundred meters from the famed Qutub Minar.
It was constructed between 1806 and 1837 by Lala Sidhu Mal, a nobility in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar II.
In ancient Jain writings, the area was known as Yoginipura, and Prithviraj Chauhan was supposed to have visited a Yogini temple here shortly before his city was destroyed.
It was a prominent point during Akbar II's reign.
The temple houses a copy of Goddess Yogmaya, popularly known as the "Pure Goddess."
The most prominent festival celebrated only in this temple is 'Phoolwalon ki Sair.'
