Description
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Zonal Unit, Lucknow, recently captured 436 newborn Indian Tent tortoises from a person who was illegally transferring them across state lines.
About The Indian Tent Turtle
The Indian tent turtle (Pangshura tentoria) is a turtle species in the Geoemydidae family.
It is mostly a herbivorous species and an energetic swimmer.
Habitat
Its habitat consists of still water ponds on the river's edge and slow rushing water near the river's banks.
The species is native to India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
Schedule 1 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act of 1972 governs conservation.

Major Threats
Due to the species' beautiful look, they are illegally traded in the pet market.

Under the auspices of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), it is the principal intelligence and enforcement agency in anti-smuggling affairs.
Mandate
DRI has been carrying out its mandate of preventing and detecting cases of narcotic drug and psychotropic substance smuggling, wildlife items, foreign currency, hazardous & environmentally sensitive materials, antiques, and so on, as well as taking punitive action against the organized crime groups involved.
It also investigates business fraud and incidents of customs duty evasion.
Headquarters are in New Delhi.
