It was discovered in a damp deciduous forest in the Banspal block of Odisha's Keonjhar district.
It can be utilized to generate a superior variety with great disease resistance by hybridisation.
It can also help to diversify the genetic base of okra.
Features
It is a 5 metre tall perennial shrub with a heavily hispid, spiky stem covered with retrorse hairs.
It blooms with big, vivid yellow flowers.
It bears sub-reniform seeds with short, stout trichomes that are not spiral.
It also has a seed viability of 95 percent.
