The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) commemorated its 38th Foundation Day at its headquarters in Maidan Garhi on November 19. The celebration began with a floral homage to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the statue of Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor IGNOU, along with university authorities and fraternity.
According to an IGNOU press release, the Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Lt. Guv Saxena, who addressed the gathering, stated that IGNOU is a beacon of knowledge and academic brilliance in the fields of inclusive education and distance learning. He also praised the university for providing flexible, learner-centered, cost-effective, and high-quality education while remaining committed to equity and access.
He also lauded IGNOU for embodying the inclusion objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020, referring to it as the "People's University." He stated that the transformative nature of IGNOU, as well as its alignment with global goals, particularly the UN Sustainable Development Goals-2030, emphasize the university's potential to address educational challenges.
Lt. Guv Saxena emphasized the need of student upskilling, vocational education, and a balanced concentration on both curricular and extra-curricular activities for overall student development.
In his lecture, Professor Nageshwar Rao emphasized the university's commitment to the National Education Policy 2020 by creating new programs that incorporate vocational components and extend into regional languages.
