Sarla Thukral, born in 1914, earned her pilot's license in 1936 at the age of 21, flying solo in a Gypsy Moth. She continued, flying for the Lahore Flying Club for a thousand hours. P.D. Sharma, who came from a family of nine pilots, supported her dreams when she married at the age of 16.

Sarla Thukral's tale is one of bravery and perseverance. While her husband, P.D. Sharma, was the first Indian to have an airmail pilot's certificate, Sarla was an aviation pioneer in her own right.
