The Education Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 has ranked four medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. According to the NIRF 2023 rankings, UP has one of the most medical colleges in the state.

The top medical college in the state is Lucknow's Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, which was placed eighth in the NIRF 2023. While Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi and King George's Medical University in Lucknow are ranked eighth and twelve respectively in the NIRF 2023, Aligarh Muslim University is ranked 28th.

In the NIRF 2022, Banaras Hindu University was placed fifth among the state's medical colleges. Although King George's Medical University declined from 11th to 12th in the NIRF 2023 medical college rankings, its NIRF scores improved, as it achieved 61.68 in the NIRF 2022 rankings and 63.93 in the NIRF 2023 rankings.

Banaras Hindu University and Aligarh Muslim University have also been named among the top dental institutions in Uttar Pradesh in the NIRF 2023 list of best universities in dental education. In the field of dentistry, three universities have been named to the NIRF 2023: BHU, AMU, and Saraswati Dental College and Hospital.

While BHU and AMU are ranked 18th and 31st in the NIRF 2023 rankings, respectively, Saraswati Dental College and Hospital is ranked 40th. The King George's Medical University has made the list of NIRF 2022 rankings in the Dental category, ranking sixth. It was, however, removed off the list of elite dental institutes in 2023.
