The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) has amended its admission procedure for its flagship postgraduate programme (PGP), in which students are admitted based on their performance on the Common Admission Test (CAT).
Candidates are shortlisted by IIMs based on their CAT result, Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interviews (PI).
To determine a candidate's ability for the PGP, IIM Bangalore considers a number of factors, including academic performance in Class 10 and 12, degree programs, and section-wise CAT scores. Relevant work experience, if any, is also considered in the selection process. Because the institute uses a two-phase selection method, these selection criteria are applied in two stages.
Change In Admission Policy
According to the revised admission guideline, the weightage of the personal interview (PI) round has been increased from 35% to 40% this year. To do this, IIM Bangalore reduced the weightage of grades acquired in Classes 10 and 12 from 15% to 10% in the shortlisting phase. Furthermore, the weight accorded to Class 10 and Class 12 grades has been reduced from 10% to 5% in the final stage.
CAT 2023
This year, the IIMs saw a record number of CAT registrations. “About 3.3 lakh applicants have registered for CAT 2023, which is the highest in the history of CAT that started in 1977,” said exam convener Professor Sanjeet Singh. This is a big jump from last year’s 2.55 lakh candidates, while 2.31 lakh applied in 2021.
According to the official schedule, admit cards will be issued on October 25 at 5:00 pm., and the exam will be taken in three sessions on November 26. The results will most likely be made public in the second week of January 2024.
