  • In late 1984, he joined Forethought, Inc. as a software developer for Gavilon Computer.

  • At Forethought, Robert Gaskins spearheaded the development of graphical presentation software that became PowerPoint, with Austin serving as the lead developer.

  • Along with Austin, Tom Rudkin joined the PowerPoint project and made substantial programming contributions.

  • Microsoft bought Forethought in 1987, and Austin remained the lead PowerPoint developer until 1996.
