UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II  Examination 2023: Overview

The recruitment for the Assitant Commandant (AC) in CAPF is conducted on a yearly basis by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit candidates in several forces under Central Armed Police Forces. The following are the special forces that will recruit candidates through the CAPF exam.

UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II 2023: Who Can Apply

Nationality/ Citizenship

1. No person who is not a citizen of India shall, except with the consent of the Central Government signified in writing, be appointed or employed under these Rules.
2. Provided that nothing contained in these rules shall debar the appointment, enrolment or employment of a subject of Nepal or Bhutan under these Rules.

Sex: 

Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for appointment to the post of Assistant Commandants.

Age limit:

A candidate must have attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2023, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1998 and not later than 1st August, 2003.

Education Qualification

1. A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree of a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.
2. Candidates, who have appeared in the graduation examination and are waiting for their results, can also apply for UPSC CAPF Exam. But, the admission to CAPF exam would be provisional until the proof of passing the examination after qualifying the CAPF exam is not produced.
3. Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by the Government as equivalent to a professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the examination.

Restriction on re-appearance of candidates finally selected/ recommended earlier

A candidate who has been finally selected on the basis of an earlier examination to the post of Assistant Commandants in any of the forces participating in the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination will not be eligible to appear at a subsequent examination for recruitment of Assistant Commandants in the participating CAPFs.

The application process is online, Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can fill out the application form. The application process involves several steps, such as registering, completing the application form, uploading the required documents, paying the fee, and final submission. Candidates only need to fill out the application form with correct details, otherwise, you are responsible for rejection.

UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II 2023: Scheme of Exam

UPSC CAPF examination is divided into two parts, namely, Paper I & Paper II.

Paper I General Ability and Intelligence

The questions in Paper I will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) type for which the time allotted will be of 120 minutes. The total marks for this examination are 250.

Paper II General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension

Paper II of UPSC CAPF will be a Descriptive type test that will contain 200 Marks. The time allotted for this paper is 180 minutes.

1. The examination will be conducted through offline mode. The examination is a pen & paper-based test containing only multiple choice type questions.

2. The questions will be set bilingually, i.e., in English & Hindi.

3. There are four alternatives for the answer to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
4. If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.

Paper II General Studies, Essay and Comprehension

Part A - Essay questions which are to be answered in long narrative form either in Hindi or English totaling 80 Marks. The indicative topics are modern Indian history, especially of the 12 freedom struggle, geography, polity and economy, knowledge of security and human rights issues, and analytical ability.

Part B – Comprehension, précis writing, other communications/language skills – to be attempted in English only (Marks 120) – The topics are Comprehension passages, précis writing, developing counterarguments, simple grammar and other aspects of language testing.

UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II 2023: Admission to Examination Centres

1. The admit card will specify the exam dates, times, and address of the allotted CAPF exam centre.

2. Candidates must reach the exam centre 2 hours prior as per the details mentioned in the admit card.

3. Candidates must carry their CAPF Admit Card, government-issued photo ID, and Address proof to the CAPF exam centres.

4. No need to carry a rough work sheet as the investigator inside the exam hall will provide it.

5. Do not carry any precious items inside the CAPF Exam Centres, as the Commission will not be responsible for the safety of such things.

6. Calculators, books, paper sheets, notebooks, and any electronic devices are not allowed to take inside the exam hall.

UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II 2023: Result

The Union Public Service releases the UPSC CAPF result on the official website. UPSC releases the result online in PDF format at upsc.gov.in. Candidate can check their results by following the steps listed below:
1. Visit the official website of UPSC
2. Click on the CAPF Result appearing in the "What's New" section on the right-hand side
3.  A new page will appear showing the PDF link of the CAPF written result
4. Click on the link given under the "Documents" column, the written result pdf will open.Search the roll number
5. Download the CAPF result pdf for future reference.

UPSC CAPF AC PAPER I & II 2023: Mode of Selection

The Selection Procedure/Scheme of the Examination will be as follows:

(i) Written Examination:

The written examination to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission will be held on 06th August, 2023 and will comprise two papers. Paper I will be held from 10 a.m. to 12.00 Noon and Paper II will be held from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence - 250 Marks The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi.

Paper II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension - 200 Marks In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Precis Writing, Comprehension Components, and other communications/ language skills will be English only.

Note I: Candidates should ensure that in Paper II they write the answers only in the medium allowed by the Commission for the different Components as mentioned above. No credit will be given for answers written in a medium other than the one allowed in the Paper. Candidates will be required to indicate the medium of Essay Component in the Attendance Lists and on the Answer Book. No credit will be given for the Essay Component if the candidate indicates a medium on the Attendance List and on the Answer Book other than the one in which he/she has written the Essay.

Note II: There will be minimum qualifying marks separately in each Paper as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion. Paper-I will be evaluated first and evaluation of Paper-II will be done only of those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I.

(ii) Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests:

(iii) Interview/Personality Test :

Candidates who are declared qualified in the Medical Standards Tests will be called for Interview/Personality Test to be conducted by Union Public Service Commission. Candidates who are declared medically unfit but allowed to appear before the “Review Medical Board” on their appeal by the Appellate Authority will be called for Interview/Personality Tests provisionally. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 150 Marks. Candidates who are short-listed for Interview/Personality Test, including those shortlisted for Interview/Personality Test provisionally will be issued a Detailed Application Form (DAF) in which among other things, they will be required to indicate their preference of Forces.

(iv) Final Selection / Merit:

The merit list will be drawn on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test.
