Description

The preliminary examination for Indian Administrative Services Examination is divided into two Papers. The first paper contains 100 questions of total 200 marks from General Studies. The second paper contains 80 questions of total of 200 marks from Civil Service Aptitude Test. 

The section-wise distribution of Questions and Marks is given below:

Note: The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

UPSC IAS PRE MODE OF EXAM

The Preliminary examination for Indian Administrative Service will be held as an Offline Pen & Paper Based Examination. It will contain objective-type questions. 

UPSC IAS PRE MEDIUM OF EXAM

The question paper will be set both in Hindi & English.

    UPSC IAS PRE MARKING SCHEME

    There will be negative marking for incorrect answers, as detailed below:

    1. There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
    2. If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.
    3. If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

    UPSC IAS PRE EXAM IMPORTANT FACTS

    1. The Preliminary Examination will be held in two papers of total 400 marks.
    2. For each paper, 120 minutes will be allotted.
    3. Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission  to have qualified in  the Preliminary/ Stage-I Examination in  the year will be eligible for admission to the Main/ Stage-II Examination of that year provided they are otherwise eligible for admission to the Main/ Stage-II  Examination.
    4. The question paper will be set both in Hindi & English.
    5. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
