The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre recently opened a space system design lab in Ahmedabad (IN-SPACe). The Space Systems Design Lab's mission is to assist space start-ups in quickly translating innovative ideas into workable models while reducing Research & Development costs.
Objectives And Focus
The IN-SPACe design lab's primary goal is to enable start-ups in the space sector to build prototypes with the fewest iterations possible, significantly reducing turnaround time and research and development costs. As a result, non-government entities (NGEs) will be able to play an important role in the development of cutting-edge space technologies.
The IN-SPACe design lab is equipped with cutting-edge analysis and simulation software for mission simulation, modeling, visualizing, and optimizing payload and spacecraft, ground station, and launch vehicle avionics. Pathwave system design, System Tool Kit, Advance Design Systems, 3D CAD Mach 3, high-frequency structure simulation, Simcenter 3D space System (Thermal and cooling), Finite Element analysis structure (FEAST), and OpticStudio (Zemax) are among the software resources. They will contribute to mission planning, as well as RF, structural, and thermal design and analysis of space systems.
Resources For Computing And Training
The lab has computing resources that can assist start-ups in validating and visualizing their design concepts prior to the start of the manufacturing process. The IN-SPACe will organize periodic training and workshops at the space systems design lab to provide practical hands-on training to NGEs on how to use software packages provided to them.
Seed Funding And Eligibility
IN-SPACe previously announced a Rupees 1 crore seed fund scheme for early-stage space start-ups. It will benefit early-stage start-ups that use space technology to solve upstream, midstream, and downstream space sector challenges.
Global Aspirations
ISRO Chairman S Somanath stated that the goal of NGE's participation in space activities is to increase the size of the space economy from 2% to 10% of the global economy. ISRO is committed to working with NGEs on this, he said.
Location
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre's (IN-SPACe) Space Systems Design Lab is located in Bopal, Ahmedabad, India. The design lab will be extremely beneficial to space startups because it will allow them to verify and visualize their designs before metal cutting, as well as confirm the test results of fabricated products with minimal turnaround time.
