In the Approval Process Handbook 2023-24, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) introduced relaxed norms and new changes. The AICTE is now accepting applications for new engineering colleges in traditional engineering and technology fields at the degree, diploma, and postgraduate (PG) levels. The AICTE Chairman, TG Sitharam, has launched its Portal to invite applications for approval of institutions for the upcoming academic year. On March 22, 2023, AICTE Chairman released the Approval Process Handbook 23-24, which contains the approval norms.
As per the reports, the regulator will now handle all approvals through the National Single Window System portal. From now on, all new institutions must register on the NSWS portal for approval, according to AICTE advisor Rajendra Kakde, who spoke at the inauguration.
The All India Council of Technical Education has also increased the maximum approved intake in UG engineering courses, i.e. BE/BTech, from 300 to 360 under the new regulations. The institutions are also free to increase the intake from 180 to 300 in Computer Application courses, according to the reports.
Introduction Of New Courses
According to the AICTE's new handbook for the academic year 2023-24, all engineering colleges will be able to apply for the new courses at all levels of education, including degree, diploma, and postgraduate levels, with a maximum of three divisions. Previously, institutions could only apply for a single new programme and would have to wait for the first batch to graduate, according to reports.
Furthermore, as specified in Appendix 2 of the Approval Process Handbook, all branches of Engineering and Technology will offer Elective Courses in Emerging/ Multidisciplinary Areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, Data Sciences, Robotics, Augmented Reality/ Virtual Reality, Cyber Security, and so on.
