The Wolf Foundation of Israel gives the Wolf Prize. It has been presented since 1978. The Wolf Prizes are awarded to both scientists and artists. Ricardo Wolf, a German, founded it. He was the Israeli ambassador. The prizes are given out in six categories: arts, physics, agriculture, mathematics, chemistry, and medicine. The Arts Wolf Prize is awarded in four categories: music, painting, architecture, and sculpture.
The Prize Money
The winners will receive $100,000 USD. The award ceremony is held in the Knesset, Israel's Parliament. The award is said to be given out once a year. Only six Wolf Prizes were awarded between 2000 and 2010, with only four prizes in Physics. Physics and chemistry receive the most Wolf Prizes.
Medicine: Professor Daniel Drucker of Toronto University in Canada, for his work on intestinal hormones.
Agriculture: Martinus Th Rien of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro was recognised for his work on water flow and contaminant transport in soils.
Physics: Can Genuchten, Professor of Physics, for his work in soil physics and the Vadose zone; the Vadose zone is located above the groundwater table.
Chemistry:There are three scientists were recognised for their work on pathological RNA dysfunctions: John T Wilson, Hiroaki Suga, and Jeffery W Kelly.
Mathematics: Ingrid Daubechies of Duke University, for her work in wavelet theory.
Arts : Fujiko Nakaya of Japan and Richard Long of England, for their work in wavelet theory.
