Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur) has recently launched an online certification programme on the 'Evolution of Air Interface Towards 5G'. This two-month NPTEL course is available on the SWAYAM platform, and registration is open up to February 20, 2023. Candidates who want to learn about the contents of the Air Interface for 5G Technology can enrol themselves. Candidates will be given weekly assignments to complete in order to test their knowledge.

The course is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as MS and PhD students. This free online course is also open to practising engineers and those in the field of Telecommunications Engineering who want to learn more about advancements in the broad field of wireless communication technology.

Steps To Apply For IIT Kharagpur Online 5G Air Interface Course

  • Visit the official website of SWAYAM or register through the app.

  • Carefully read the course details, and then click on “Join”.

  • In the next step, enter your username, password, and email ID.

  • Fill in the details mentioned and apply for the course.

  • Save and submit the registration page.

At the beginning of the 5G Air Interface Course, operating scenarios, mm-wave technology, and waveforms are covered. Furthermore, students will gain a thorough understanding of the 5G new radio waveform, its origins, and variants. Those interested in enrolling in the course should go to the official website.

Dr Suvra Sekhar Das, an associate professor at IIT Kharagpur, will be the course instructor and will deliver several in-depth lectures online. During the course, students enrolled in this course will be introduced to a non-orthogonal multiple access scheme, which will be followed by a performance analysis of heterogeneous networks.

Certification Eligibility Criteria

Students must register for the proctored exam, which will be held on April 29, 2023, in order to be certified. The institute will administer the exam in an offline format. In addition, candidates taking the exam must pay Rupees 1000 as an exam fee. The following conditions must be met in order to obtain the certificate:

  • First and foremost, the average assignment score must be 25% of the average of the best six assignments out of the total eight assignments assigned in the course.

  • Secondly, the exam score must be 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100.

  • The total score will be computed by adding the average assignment score to the exam score.

  • The candidate will be eligible for the certificate only if his or her average assignment score is 30/75 or higher.
