Description

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the revised cutoff marks for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) on October 21 for all categories. The NEET PG cutoff marks have been reduced for all categories by 15 percentile. The decision was made after taking into account the fact that several seats became empty during the PG counselling session held for the previous academic session.

The qualifying percentile for candidates in the General category has been reduced from the 50th to 25th percentile. While it has dropped from the 45th percentile to 20th percentile for people with disabilities in the General category (PWD-general), it is the 15 percentile for candidates from the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), and people with disabilities in the SC, ST, OBC category.

Candidature is purely provisional, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria outlined in the NEET PG 2022 information bulletin, according to the board. The NEET PG 2022 rank, as published on June 1, 2022, has not changed, it added.

According to a PTI report, approximately 1,400 seats remained vacant in the previous session, primarily in pre- and para-clinical subjects. As per an official source,  “Since such post-graduate seats going vacant is a sheer wastage of resources in a country where postgraduate medical seats are premium, a decision to reduce cut-off for admission to post-graduate courses for 2022 23 by 25 percentile across all categories has been taken.”
