The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon declare the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2022 result on the official website. The result of a candidate will contain percentiles and normalised marks. The Central Universities (CUs) will prepare the admissions ranking list using the normalised marks from the CUET UG scorecard.
NTA will use the equipercentile method for normalisation to eliminate mark variations while preparing the CUET rank list.
Normalisation Method
The CUET UG 2022 normalisation method, also known as the equipercentile method, will include the percentile for each candidate, which is calculated by comparing the candidate's raw marks to the raw marks of others in the same session. NTA will use this method for all sessions spanning multiple days on the same subject. These percentiles are then averaged and converted into normalised marks. Sessions with a smaller number of candidates are combined with larger sessions.
NTA said in a statement, "These normalized marks of the candidates, obtained using equipercentile method, in different sessions in a given subject can be used in the same way we use the raw marks of a conventional single session examination."
How CUET UG 2022 Normalised Marks Will Be Calculated
To calculate the normalised marks across different sessions in a given subject, NTA will first determine the percentile of each group of these students for each shift based on the raw marks they have earned.
The raw marks of the students in each shift will be used to arrange the CUET UG percentile marks in descending order.
NTA will use the interpolation method to calculate the missing marks for each candidate in each shift. Interpolation is a mathematical method for estimating missing marks of students who are absent in one shift because they took the test in the other shift.
Each candidate's percentile score will be sorted in descending order using the Interpolation method and will include marks for both shifts, raw marks, and interpolated marks.
Finally, NTA will compute the average of the actual raw marks obtained in one shift and the marks obtained through interpolation in the other shift.
