Description

Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju, the Director General of Military Operations of the Indian Army, was appointed Vice Chief of the Army Staff on May 1. On December 15, 1984, he was commissioned in the Jat Regiment as a graduate of Sainik School Bijapur and the National Defence Academy. During Operation Parakram in the Western Theater and J&K, he commanded a battalion. The Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and the Yudh Seva Medal have all been bestowed to him.

Lt General BS Raju was the Director-General of Military Operations during the stalemate on the LAC, the de facto border between India and China, before taking up the current job. Since June 2020, when both sides lost many personnel, the two countries have been embroiled in a standstill.
