In Manipur, rich tributes were given to the state's courageous sons who made huge sacrifices fighting against the British in the battle of Khongjom during the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War to keep the state's independence.

The state-level Khongjom Day event in Khebaching, Thoubal district, was attended by Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, as well as the general public. Every year on April 23rd, Manipur honours Manipuri warriors who fought the British, particularly Major Paona Brajabashi. Manipur's Governor and Chief Minister joined the people in a floral tribute to the heroes. Two minutes of silence and a gun salute were observed at Khebaching. Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the younger generation must remember our forefathers' sacrifices and always struggle for a unified nation. Mount Harriet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been renamed Mount Manipur, according to the Chief Minister. He explained that the decision was made to honour the sacrifice of Manipur fighters.
